Leaders

Rob Weston
Group Lead Volunteer (Group Scout Leader

Rob was a Scout at the 1st Plymstock/Oreston Scout Group, when he went to university in London he joined the 73rd Penge & Beckenham Scout Group as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader for a couple of years. Then he moved to the role of Cub Scout Leader for the 10th Wembley Scout Group. After a break of several years, he returned as a Beaver Scout Leader at 73rd Reading (Park) Scout Group. Having moved to Devon, Rob joined the 1st Lifton Scout Group in 2018 and has served as Group Scout Leader since 2020. Rob enjoys swimming, camping and dinghy sailing. He received his 25 years service award in 2023.

Natasha Hulme
Squirrel Scout Leader

Joined to assist the Scout section in March 2022. Successfully launched our Squirrel Section in November 2022. Natasha has seen the Squirrel section grow and develop.

Caroline Moulds
Assistant Squirrel Scout Leader

Joined the Scout Group in May 2022 to support the setting up of a Squirrel Section in 2023. Having previously been a Beaver Scout leader, Caroline was ready for the challenge of setting up a brand new section.

Anna Dymond
Beaver Scout Leader

Anna has a great deal of experience with the Beaver Scout age group and has been in leadership roles at 1st Lifton Scout Group for many years.

Anna served as the Group Scout Leader from 2015 until 2020. She received her 10 years service award in 2021.

Claire Chalk
Assistant Beaver Scout Leader

Claire started at 1st Lifton Scout Group with her own two children in Beavers, after working as Beaver leader for four years Claire spent some time as a Cub Scout Assistant Leader at Launceston Scout Group before returning with Jessica to help her run the Beaver section at 1st Lifton Scout Group. Claire loves camping, walking, gardening and basically anything which is outside. She received her 20 years service award in 2024.

Ruth Dymond
Assistant Beaver Scout Leader

Ruth has a great deal of experience with the Beaver Scout age group and has been in various leadership roles at 1st Lifton Scout Group for many years. She received her 10 years service award in 2020.

Mel Weldon
Beaver Scout Section Assistant

Mel was a Girl Guide with the 3rd Tavistock Group and then went on to be a Young Leader. Both her son and daughter joined 1st Lifton Beaver Scouts which they both enjoyed. Mel volunteered to help out over a few sessions as a parent, then in 2013 joined as a Beaver Section Assistant which she has thoroughly enjoyed. Mel’s hobbies are reading, learning new things and having fun. She received her 5 years service award in 2018 and 10 years service award in 2023.

Karen Sandercock
Beaver Scout Section Assistant

Joined the Scout Group in October 2022 to support the Lifton Beaver Colony.

Elena Rouse
Beaver Scout Section Assistant

Elena has been a part of the Scout Association since the age of 6 when she joined as a Beaver.

Elena joined our Scout Group in 2024 to support the Liftondown Beaver Colony.

She received her 5 years service award in 2018.

Beaver Scout Section Assistant

Joined the Scout Group in 2023 to support the Liftondown Beaver Colony.

Sandie Gumbrell
Cub Scout Leader

Sandie first started out just helping on Scout camps doing the cooking, then in 2009 when her daughter joined Beavers and a leader left Sandie became a Section Assistant. She enjoyed helping out and moved up to an Assistant Beaver Scout Leader for 2 years gaining experience before moving to Assistant Cub Scout Leader and then Cub Scout Leader in 2014. Sandie enjoys camping and being outdoors with her sledge dogs. She received her 10 years service award in 2022. In 2024 Sandie received the Award of Merit for her service as a leader.

Mark Guy
Assistant Cub Scout Leader

Mark joined the Cub Scout section at 1st Lifton Sea Scouts after transferring from 1st Launceston Scout Group in 2020. Mark has previously been a Scout Leader in Worcestershire as well as an Army Cadet Instructor for over 15 years. In addition to helping out at 1st Lifton, Mark also helps to run a local youth group for 8 – 16 year olds. When Mark is not volunteering he works in the ‘energy field’ and has a passion for renewable energy and carbon reduction. Any spare time is spent with his family enjoying sailing and kayaking. He received his 5 years service award in 2022. Mark received the Chief Scout’s Commendation Award in 2024.

Sam Dawson
Cub Scout Section Assistant

Sam was instrumental in starting up the Liftondown Beaver Colony in September 2021. Her interests include sailing and other watersports. Sam is now a Section Assistant with the Cub section.

Debbie Rockell
Cub Scout Section Assistant

Joined the Scout Group in September 2021 when the second Beaver Colony was started. In 2023 Debbie started helping out in Cubs.

 

Laura Cooper
Cub Scout Leader

Joined the Scout Group in January 2022 as Cub Section Assistant. Then took on role of Cub Leader to support the launch of our Liftondown Cub Pack in 2024.

Lisa Elia
Assistant Cub Scout Leader

Joined the Scout Group Executive in May 2022 as a parent representative. Took on role of Assistant Cub Leader to support the launch of our Liftondown Cub Pack in 2024.

Imogen Spooncer
Scout Leader

Imogen has grown up in the Lifton Scout Group. After a short spell in Durham,  Imogen took on the role of Scout Leader in 2020. Imogen received her Wood Badge in 2023. Imogen received her 5 year service award in 2024.

Rob Gumbrell
Assistant Scout Leader

Rob was in The British Red Cross for many years and was an Assistant Scout Leader with 1st Portslade Scout Group in Sussex before moving to Cornwall. He joined 1st Lifton Sea Scout Group, initially as a Assistant Beaver Scout Leader then moved to the Cub section as Cub Scout Leader. Since 2019 Rob has been our Assistant Scout Leader, he enjoys outside activities, wood work, rope work, camping and watersports. He received his 10 years service award in 2018 and his 15 years service award in 2023. Rob was awarded the Chief Scout’s Commendation Award in 2024.

Adam Shickle
Assistant Scout Leader

Starting out as an Explorer Scout Leader in Durham. Adam moved to Devon and took on the role of Assistant Scout Leader in 2020. Adam received his King’s Scout Award in 2023 and his 5 years service award. Adam enjoys camping, climbing and watersports.

Darren Faulkner
Assistant Scout Leader

Darren joined the 1st Lifton Scout Group in January 2022. Darren has many years of camping  experience and an interest in many outdoor activities.

Kelly Stephenson
Scout Section Assistant

Joined to assist the Scout section in March 2022. Kelly has children in both the Beaver and Scout sections.

Peter Morris
Chair

Peter has been Chair of Lifton Sea Scouts since 2015 (excluding 2 years while working in New Zealand). For most of his working life he was a submariner in the Royal Navy. This saw him undertake various engineering roles. He also served as the Defence Attaché to Bulgaria and finally ran the Submarine Escape Training Tank in Gosport. Since leaving the RN he has worked for Babcock International and this included time in both New Zealand and Australia. Now retired he is keen to work with the GSL to develop the ‘sea’ part of Lifton Sea Scouts and to improve/provide the facilities that the leaders require to deliver a comprehensive programme of Scouting. He received his 5 years service award in 2020.

Kay Dunn
Secretary

Kay has been the Secretary to the Group Trustees since 2020. Prior to this she was heavily involved with children and young adults through her teaching career. When Kay retired in 2015 she was Head of School. During her teaching career she became a Surrey Schools Sports Co-ordinator and was active in the planning and implementation of residential visits which included climbing, abseiling, canoeing and archery. For fifteen years she held the roles of Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and Child Protection Liaison Officer. These roles enabled her to develop skills regarding the physical, emotional, social and health difficulties children may have and how best to help them overcome these.

Beccy joined as a Group Trustee in January 2024, taking on the role of Group Treasurer.

Ray Moulds
Parent Representative
Ray moved to Lifton in 2020 and joined our as a Group Trustee in Spring 2022.
Ray grew up in York and was a Cub and Scout himself in the Lord Mayor’s Own Scout group which met just behind Bootham Terrace in York.
He works for Tavistock based Flood Control International
and is often travelling around the UK visiting sites that have been flooded or are at flood risk.
Since moving to Devon, Ray and his family are enjoying visiting the many beautiful places we have on our doorstep.
Lisa Elias

Lisa is a parent rep who joined as a Group Trustee in May 2022.

Dwayne Fields proudly holds the title of the UK's 11th Chief Scout

An explorer, adventurer and TV presenter, Dwayne's been seen in BAFTA nominated Channel 5 series Race to the Pole, on BBC Springwatch, Countryfile, National Geographic and Disney+.
