Celebrating our Growth at 2023 AGM

Date: 12th Apr 2023 Author: Robert Weston

‘The last twelve months have seen significant growth in our Scout group, even after the addition of two new sections, we still have more demand for places than we can accommodate’ reported the Group Scout Leader of the 1st Lifton Scout Group at the AGM which was held on Monday 24th April 2023.

The Chair of 1st Lifton, Peter, explained that the members of the Scout Executive Committee are now known as the Group Trustees. But the role remains the same – to provide support, so that the leaders can focus on delivering a great programme that our young people can enjoy each week. The reports from each Section Leader demonstrated that a great, age-appropriate programme is available for everyone. It was good to hear that our youngest and newest section, the Squirrel Drey, is off to a fantastic start. We look forward to hearing more about their development over the coming months.

Rob shared the news that James is heading over to New Zealand with his family very soon – which gives us a vacancy for a Squirrel Section Assistant and a Cub Section Assistant. We wish James and his family the very best as they start on their new adventure. I feel certain that they will want to join a Scout group in New Zealand.

Four parents agreed to serve as Group Trustees for the next 12 months – Tim, Lisa, Ray and Amanda – each of whom was thanked by the Chair for their support of the group.

Presentations from the District Commissioner, Ben de Carteret, were made to: Ellie and Elsie on completion of their Gold Chief Scout’s Awards; Imogen on completion of her Wood Badge; Sandie who received a Commissioner’s Commendation Award for her work with Cubs; Rob W for his 25 years of service to Scouting certificate and badge.

As last year, our International Jamboree Scouts helped to serve up a great BBQ with burgers and hot dogs. After a heavy shower at 5pm, the evening was mostly dry!
