Christmas Carols 2023

Date: 16th Nov 2023 Author: Robert Weston

1st Lifton Scout Group has an invitation to the local community to join the Scout Group for their Christmas Carol service on Monday 18th December 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church (the parish church of Lifton). We enjoy celebrating Christmas with a family carol service each year, once again we are really looking forward to this year’s service which will be led by Revd Phillip Conway.

We want to extend a special welcome to anyone who has been part of the group at any stage in the past 51 years! Just think of those Cubs from 1972, they will be around 60 years old. We still have a full Cub Pack of 24 children and we will launch our second Cub Pack in January 2024. In addition we have Squirrel Scouts, Beaver Scouts, Scouts and Young Leaders – in total we are a Scout Group with over 110 young people and over 25 adult leaders.

At the carol service, we will thank all the leaders and trustees who give their time and energy to enable young people to learn new skills and grow as members of a team. Each and every volunteer brings a wealth of experience, most have experience of working with children, some of disabilities. Some have water sports expertise which is great as we are a Sea Scout group, meeting at Roadford Lake during the summer months. We will also recognise the long service of some of our leaders, several of whom have been in leadership for over ten years. Once again we are grateful for the donation of delicious mince pies by local business, Foxcombe Bakehouse. The support of local people and businesses is a real blessing for the group.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
