Sleeping with Sharks 2024

Date: 27th Oct 2024 Author: Robert Weston

One of the great traditions for Beavers in West Devon District is the opportunity to sleep with sharks at Plymouth National Marine Aquarium in October. This year over 50 Beavers along with over 20 Scout volunteer leaders were treated to a guided tour of the aquarium. During the evening, where they learnt all about marine life around the UK and the world. From the Great Barrier Reef environment to the ecosystem of Plymouth Sound. We heard some fun facts about the ‘gross’ behaviour of some creatures of the oceans. The sea cucumber was voted as the most disgusting, but you’ll have to ask a Beaver Scout to find out why! We had fun learning which creature has three hearts, which creature has five eyes and which creature doesn’t ‘age’ as we do. Then we learnt fun facts about sharks, before we settled into our sleeping bags within sight of the enormous fish tank. Well done to all the Beavers from across the District, all were very well behaved and a real credit to the Scout movement. This is an annual event so we look forward to the next opportunity for our Beavers to sleep with the sharks!
