South Korean Jamboree Presentation
The Scouts section at 1st Lifton Scout Group heard all about this year’s International Jamboree with first hand reflections by two of our Scouts, Elsie and Ellie. Here are some of their thoughts after the amazing opportunity during August 2023:
‘During the time I spent out in Korea I really embraced every aspect of its culture: from music, to dance, to food and to language. The people of Korea were extremely nice and welcoming and I have never felt such confidence as not only a Scout but in myself as well. Many friends were made along the way such as those from South Africa, Germany, Bulgaria, Denmark and Sweden – some of them I still keep in contact regularly and we talk about our special experience together.’
‘Sadly, we had to leave the site as sanitation was becoming difficult and it was far too hot for us, not to mention the typhoon that was forecast to hit the Jamboree site. Obviously this wasn’t what we had expected and many people were upset but I made the most of my time on the camp site as I went out and traded most of my UK badges & accessories and met Scouts from many other countries before we were moved into hotels. Overcoming these challenges were part of the experience and did some good for all of us. I can even say I survived a typhoon!’
Elsie and Ellie encouraged all of the Scouts to consider applying to attend the next International Jamboree which will be held in Poland in 2027. Details about the selection process in Devon have not been released yet, but you can read more about the Jamboree in Poland (click here).
