West Devon Mayoral Awards

Date: 12th Mar 2023 Author: Robert Weston

Each year the Mayor of West Devon presents certificates of appreciation to members of the local community for their achievements. On 7th March 2023, two of the young people in our Scout Group received a certificate. Firstly, Cub Scout Fraser received an award for his fundraising activity for a cancer charity. Fraser raised an amazing £1700 by baking many chocolate brownies for friends and family, plus a sponsored silence. Fraser agreed the sponsored silence was a big challenge!

Secondly, Young Leader Izzy received an award to acknowledge her commitment of time and energy to helping establish and lead the second Beaver Colony at 1st Lifton Scout Group. Izzy has been volunteering each week since the Colony was launched two years ago. This is in addition to her completing the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Awards and preparing for her GCSE exams this summer. The Beavers leaders are grateful to have the support of Izzy and all the other young leaders. Our young leaders are so good at helping the Beavers with their games, craft activities and outdoor activities.

West Devon Borough Council’s Mayor, Cllr Caroline Mott, said: “It is great to see the wonderful examples of individuals and organisations who work hard to make an enormous difference to the community here in West Devon. Congratulations to our winners. The high number and calibre of nominations received, highlights just how much outstanding selfless work takes place in West Devon. We thank all of those who took the time to nominate, it was a difficult process to choose from all the excellent examples which we received. Thank you to all who go above and beyond to support the West Devon community.
